ECE-approved means that a vehicle lighting product has received type approval under one or more applicable UN Regulations. The exact regulation and approved function must be stated, such as UN R10 for electromagnetic compatibility or UN R149 for road-illumination devices. The term does not mean that every function of the product has the same approval. Approval is identified by an approval mark and number linked to the applicable regulation and product function. Road legality also depends on installation, quantity, position, aiming, wiring, and national requirements. A work light intended only for off-road illumination should not be described as road-approved unless the relevant driving-light function and regulation are explicitly documented.
