Work Envelope Lighting

Work envelope lighting illuminates the full area in which a machine, attachment, load, and nearby personnel operate. A suitable setup combines light patterns and mounting positions to cover travel, task, and peripheral zones while controlling glare and shadows. It is a lighting-design approach rather than a single lamp specification. The envelope changes as booms, buckets, forks, cranes, or other attachments move, so a fixed forward-facing lamp is rarely sufficient. Designers should consider the operator’s viewpoints, attachment positions, machine geometry, reflective surfaces, cameras, and pedestrian areas. Overlapping zones can maintain visibility without creating excessive foreground light or harsh contrast.
