Dampening is the term Nordic Lights uses for systems that protect a work light from shock and vibration. In general engineering language, the process is also called vibration damping. The system absorbs and distributes mechanical energy to reduce stress on the light, its components, and the mounting point. Shock is a short-duration mechanical event, whereas vibration is repeated oscillation over time; both can damage electronics, optics, seals, fasteners, and brackets. An effective dampening solution must suit the direction, frequency, and magnitude of the loads in the application. Test values should therefore be interpreted together with the stated conditions and mounting arrangement.
