A heat sink conducts heat away from electronic components and releases it to the surrounding air. In an LED work light, the housing often forms part of the heat sink. Effective heat dissipation helps maintain light output and protects the LEDs and electronics from excessive temperature. Heat moves from the LED junction through the circuit board and housing before being transferred to the environment by conduction, convection, and radiation. Dirt buildup, restricted airflow, high ambient temperature, and nearby heat sources can reduce cooling. The complete thermal design, not only visible fins, determines whether the lamp can maintain performance and service life.
