IPXX is placeholder notation for an Ingress Protection code. The first character position describes protection against access and solid objects, and the second describes protection against water; X means that a position has not been rated or stated. For example, IP6X indicates the highest solid-particle protection level while leaving the water test unspecified, and IPX7 states a water-immersion level without declaring the solids level. Vehicle products may also use ISO 20653 forms containing the letter K. The complete code and applicable standard must be retained when stating a product’s protection.
