Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controls average power by switching the supply on and off rapidly. The duty cycle—the proportion of time the signal is on—sets the average current and perceived light output. Nordic Lights uses PWM dimming on compatible products; the permitted frequency and electrical limits are product-specific. Because the LED is repeatedly switched rather than operated at a continuously reduced voltage, PWM can provide efficient and predictable dimming. If the frequency is too low or poorly coordinated with cameras, visible flicker or banding may occur. Controllers must respect the product’s input type, voltage levels, polarity, frequency range, and duty-cycle requirements.
