Waterproofing is a general description of measures used to limit water ingress. For technical claims, use the product’s exact IP rating instead. Nordic Lights commonly lists both IP68 and IP6K9K because immersion and high-pressure, high-temperature water-jet resistance are evaluated under different tests. An enclosure’s resistance depends on seals, joints, lens bonding, cable entries, connectors, and correct installation. Damage, incorrect assembly, pressure washing at unsuitable distances, chemicals, and aging can affect protection in service. The complete IP code and referenced standard provide a clearer claim than the unqualified word waterproof, which does not define a test condition.
